Hey Marc / Randal, can you help with this?
« on: September 04, 2012, 04:39:39 PM »
I\'m not sure who to start with and I figured you usually know all about this stuff. Or could point me in the right direction.  Looking to pick up one of these as a daily driver:

5-Speed that gets 60MPG and goes 70+ MPH

How can I verify what is street legal in our county/state and if I need to get extra stuff to bring it up to code.  How would I register it?

- has turn signals
- has brake lights
- has a windshield (is a wiper required?)
- has suitable restraint setup

Take the fuel mileage claims with a grain of salt.  There are motorcycles that weigh less and have smaller engines that won\'t get 60 mpg.....

Oh yea, I know its probably a bit over inflated. It has to be better than that 14 year old Buick V6 I\'m currently using as a daily.  That thing is not going to last much longer. haha

Ive never been a motorcycle kind of guy, so this was the next best thing. And come on, how awesome would it be to drive it around town? :)

Ugh - yea, wanted to avoid that route. I\'ve found in most cases that county and/or government employees know diddly about stuff like this.  Guess I\'ll have to give it a shot.

I wonder if the business next door to you guys might know. haha!

You can bypass them. There are inspection stations in Athens and Savannah, for like when you have a salvage title or no title but need one, and you should be able to ask them anything you want. From the description it sounds street legal. I know there are alot of cars running around here with no wipers, inc. our mustang and its street legal.

In most cases you\'ll need a state-approved headlight, tail light, brake light, mirror, and horn. Depending on your state, you also need approved tires and to pass an inspection.

From their site!

Looks like just the tires need to be changed. Find out what size they are.

All I can find is they are 27\" tires.

So I am assuming the diameter is 13.50\" ?

dOESN\'T SAY WHAT SIZE WHEEL. SEE IF YOU CAN FIND OUT THE DIAMETER OF THE WHEEL. IF ITS 13.5, YOU WON\'T GET ANY STREET LEGAL TIRES IN THAT SIZE.

Front says 27x8-14

Rear says 27x11-14

Thats all I could find, all alien language to me - does this indicate a 14\" wheel?

Sweet!

And it does have a horn, so I guess I need to find out if the headlights, brake lights and turn signals are DOT approved.

Already spoke to my insurance carrier, only cost me like $15.00 a month to insure me. haha
