About those street legal dune buggy tires...
« on: October 29, 2012, 06:00:10 PM »
I apologize I don\'t know the gentleman\'s name who I spoke to on Saturday when we had my wife\'s car serviced and checked out.

But he asked me if I could obtain the actual rim/tire diameter I believe to see if a standard automobile street tire could be put on them.

The dealer advised me that, \"The diameter on the wheel is 15 in. (excluding the tire).\"

So couples with the listed specs:

Front Tire 27 8-14
Rear Tire  2711-14

Is this enough to determine the answer? Or do I need to get more specific with them to get what you need?

A dealer on another forum had this to say;

\"The 4/115mm bolt pattern on the BMS is common with the Honda automobiles. You could pick up a set of DOT wheels from the salvage yard or Craig\'s List.

12x6 4+2 front and 12x8 6+2 rear is stock. So 6\" width up front with up to 4\" inside offset and 8\" width rear with up to 6\" inside offset are your maximums.\"

Does this decipher in your field and make sense? haha

No now its 12\". He said 15\" to start with and the pic has 14\". I take it any size will fit over the brakes. Thats what I would ask and find out if the bolt pattern is the same on all models.

Ok here is what I sent:

\"15\" diameter?

The specs on the 1000cc seem to indicate it is a 14\" diameter wheel.

    Front Tire27 8-14
    Rear Tire2711-14

What we mainly need to know as this buggy will be street legally driven is if standard automobile tires for 14\" diameter wheels will clear the brakes?

Also is the bolt pattern for the BMS Sand Sniper\'s the same across all models, or is it a specific bolt pattern for the 1000cc model?\"

So did I pose the question properly? haha

If I keep stating it wrong maybe you can shoot an email to dealers@bmsmotor.com and word it better? lol

There are wheels available in those offsets in 14 and 15\". In 12\" I only see ATV wheels. Still waiting on a reply from them.

Dear Randal,

Thank you for contacting BMS Motorsports. The scooters are street legal; the off-road vehicles would need to be modified according to local DMV standards to become street-legal. For your technical question, I have forwarded your inquiry to our tech support and they will answer your question as soon as they can. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Yea, we had some investors come on board back in June.  Sadly the machine shop we worked with royally screwed us over and set us back badly as far as scheduled time frames go.  None the less, chugging along - found a new place to work with.

Yea I gave up on getting into out of them - I\'ve seen pics only with these and street tires so they are out there.  I\'ll get em one way or another when the time comes. haha
