Well, what choice do I have?
« on: November 15, 2013, 09:48:15 AM »
I guess I may need to get her towed up to you guys. I\'m out of simple ideas to try on my own.  It does have an ECU behind the seats that you guys should be able to plug into and the manual has all the code listing. Last thing I did was pulled the NGK plugs I put in.  Fouled to black hell.  Put the stock ones back in, guess I may need a hotter plug unless it turns out to be something else.

I pulled my rear deck off, and pulled the out tube on the fuel pump and turned on the ignition, its pumping gas no problem, so unless its a fuel pressure problem, or a clogged injector, or maybe something else I don\'t know. Cleaned all the sensors I could think to clean.  My IAC appears to be fine and rotates like it should.

Like we discussed, basically it starts up just fine, then promptly stalls and dies.  If I get on the gas and keep it above 3000rpm I can somewhat make it stay alive, but I hear what sounds like either detonation, or backfiring, and on occasion a high winding kind of grind.  My pulleys and stuff appear to be rotating fine.  Oil level is good now that the leak was fixed.  Coolant was a bit low on my reserve, hoping not an indication that its leaking in the block.  Checked some oil, its not soupy or anything like when coolant does leak in.  Looks normal.

So unless you have any other ideas, I\'m about tapped out with what tools I have since I don\'t have the little gizmo to pull codes.

No kidding.  I fix one issue and another one springs up.  I\'m slowly upping my arsenal of tools (I\'m thinking a scanner is next on the list) and I started work on my 15x20 garage outback, so hopefully I can tackle any of these annoying issues myself.

I\'m just flat stumped on this one.  Since it starts fine and then dies, no idea if its a fuel mixing issue, fuel flow issue, electrical, god knows at this point. =/

When should I get it towed up there (lol luckily its free under my insurance).  Today? Monday?  Let me know.

Ill get on the phone here in the next hour and get the truck to come out to my house and get it there this afternoon.  I\'ll put the manual in there too.

Like I said, the ecu is behind the seats under a protective cap.  Kind of hard to miss it considering all the wiring goes to it. lol

Oil sending unit is for computer also so we are looking for one, the oil filter adapter is cracked where the allen head screws are screwed into it so he\'s gonna weld it, the tap you used is a pipe tap not a standard tap that is tapered so we cannot use that hole anymore so he plugged it off and we are gonna re-position the oil sending unit and then you should be fine. Will keep you updated as I know more about progress.

I\'m still curious why it ran fine with it capped off anyhow.

I thought the two wires for it simply ran straight to the oil light and gauge, not through the ecu.

Do those normally route through the ecu?

No idea. Yes, its a fail safe for the engine, no oil pressure shouldn\'t have let the engine run.

Runs like a champ again.  Thanks a bunch.  Ever get the details?

Also do you guys do muffler work?  As in I want to ditch my chrome one cause I found a nice matte black powder coated one.  It is the \"universal\" kind, but I prefer it be welded on.

I\'m still trying to get a straight answer on the exact problem. Glad everything is ok. We do not do exhaust work but I\'ll ask him if he wouldn\'t mind and get back to you.
